CPSC - 4345 Database Systems (3) Practical development of a database, i.e., requirement analysis, functional specifications, database design, and implementation are the main focus of the course. Topics include data redundancies, data independence, role and functionality of DBMS in database processing, database modeling using entity relationship and semantic object models, building relationships, relational model, functional dependencies, normal forms, normalization, extracting the data model from database model, data integrity and data security rules, query languages: SQL and QBE, and client/server architecture. More emphasis is given to the fundamentals of database processing and design of a database. Prerequisite: MIS-2101 or CPSC-2005 .
