Health Care Informatics Certificate

Effective Spring 2017 - This certificate program is not accepting any new students. Students interested in Health Informatics may consider pursuing the Health Informatics, B.S.  or the Health Informatics, M.S. . Students interested in post-baccalaureate certificates in the Health Professions should examine the list of certificates found on the GSU Certificate Website.

The Health Care Informatics Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program in the College of Health and Human Services , is designed to prepare healthcare professionals to work with information management systems. The program consists of an 18 credit-hour sequence of courses that provides career training and skills development for working professionals, career changers, and recent college graduates. The program is designed to supplement, rather than to replace, degree education. It allows students to explore new career opportunities and to stay current in the field.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Health Care Informatics program occurs once a year and in the fall semester only.

In addition to meeting all relevant university requirements, applicants must:

  • possess a bachelor’s degree at the undergraduate level (preferably, health administration, business/public administration, allied health disciplines, or computer science) from a regionally accredited college or university; and
  • complete the prerequisite courses, including CPSC-2005  (or equivalent course or professional experience) and a research methods course (HLAD-7105  or equivalent).

Certificate Requirements


To receive a certificate in HCI, students must:

  1. complete all required course work;
  2. earn a grade of “C” or higher for all course work; and
  3. maintain a “B” (3.0) average or higher for all course work.
