Students who major in the College of Arts and Sciences B.A. in Social Sciences are exposed to an interdisciplinary curriculum of courses in the social sciences, e.g., anthropology/ sociology, applied economics, history, and political science. Emphasis is given to the common interdisciplinary pursuit of critical thinking as it is applied to the analysis of social problems. Special attention also is given to the study of cultural similarities and differences which define the human experience. Graduates of the program, depending upon their career goals and objectives, will have the theoretical understanding for graduate work in the social science disciplines and the practical skills that are highly in demand in government, public service, education, industry, and business.
A bachelor of arts in Social Sciences provides a strong background for students who are interested in the Master of Arts in Political and Justice Studies at GSU. It is recommended that students obtain a social science-based preparatory curriculum as required by the general education requirement. It is further recommended that students complete introductory courses in anthropology, economics, political science, sociology, and international relations. In lieu of this, students should seek their advisor’s assistance to find the appropriate courses to fulfill this requirement.
