The College of Health and Human Services offers a curriculum leading to a Certificate in Substance Abuse Intervention in Healthcare (funded under a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services Administration [HRSA]) is offered in an electronic distance learning methodology that will be accessible to a diverse population of nurses across the nation. The curriculum includes a sequence of four three- credit hour courses. The focus of the curriculum is knowledge and skill building in the areas of assessment, brief intervention and referral of individuals suspected of substance abuse. Case studies and skill building exercises are also included in order for the practitioner or manager to recognize impaired professionals. Each course in the sequence builds on prior learning leading to the Certificate in Substance Abuse Intervention in Healthcare.
Special Admission Requirements
In addition to meeting the university requirements for admission, all students must show proof of nursing licensure.
