PSYC - 7801 Introduction to Mindfulness in the Helping Professions (3) Investigates how mindfulness can be used in the practice of psychotherapy both as an overall framework and as a guide for specific interventions. Students will learn how to use mindfulness to foster therapeutic connection and how to utilize mindfulness techniques for clients to practice in between sessions. Students will learn to apply mindfulness to issues such as anxiety, depression, and psychophysical disorders. Special attention will be given to the therapist’s mindfulness practice and Its effect on the client. Students will be expected to engage in mindfulness meditation in and outside the classroom in becoming a mindfulness oriented therapist. Prerequisite: Must be admitted to the certificate program or permission from the instructor.
