POJS - 8460 Crime, Justice, and the Media (3) An examination of the interrelationship of crime, justice, and the contemporary media in American society.Topics include the history of media coverage of crime and justice; the social construction of crime; an analysis of news media; the impact of sweeps months on crime news; police, courts, and corrections in the media; reality television; movies and copycat crime; and coverage of criminals and delinquents; and the social effects of crime and justice news. Media coverage of drugs and gangs will be explored as well as media stereotypes of minorities. Equivalent to POJS-846.
