LACL - 3200 Latinx Representation in Media (3) Studies the contemporary and historical representation of Latinx/e, Latina, and Latino communities and cultures in U.S. media (news and culture). Uses a media literacy framework to consider the role of race, class, and gender in the texts studied. Explores the production of media by creators in the U.S. who identify as Latinx/e/a/o. Topics covered may include but are not limited to popular culture, immigration, linguistic justice, political participation. Students will learn how to use selected digital humanities/media tools. This course may be used to fulfill the requirement for a General Education course in the Humanities. Instructional Method: Offered: Hybrid, Lecture-Discussion, Online. Fall, Spring.
