ANSO - 3500 Music and Society (3) Analyzes music as a symbolic phenomenon that is a source of cultural (re)production, identity formation, and creation of/challenge to power, hegemony, and social inequality. Utilizes macro- and micro-sociological perspectives to explain the ways musicians, their music, and music-related industries influence individuals and society and vice versa within the historical and cultural contexts of the time periods examined. Instructional Method: Lecture-Discussion, Online. Terms Offered: Fall, Spring, or Summer. Prerequisite: ONE of the following courses or their equivalents or permission of instructor: ANTH-1100 (IAI S1 901N), ANSO-2100 (IAI S7 904D), ANSO-3200 , SOC-1100 (IAI S7 900), SOC-2100 , SOC-2200 (IAI S7 903D), or SOC-3100 .
