OCCT - 6626 Neuroscience for Occupational Therapy (3)


This course is a comprehensive study of the neurosciences, focusing on the neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the sensory and motor systems.  The structure and function of nervous system cells, nervous system development and plasticity, as well as the organization and function of the brain, brainstem and spinal cord are emphasized.  Other topics include the neuromuscular junction, sensory-motor integration through the basal ganglia and cerebellum, ascending and descending pathways in the spinal cord, the anatomy and function of the special senses, and structural context for higher-order functions such as language and cognition.
