ANSO - 3700 Anthropology & Sociology of Power


This course examines questions of power, politics, and social change form a cross-cultural and social science perspective. We will explore the theoretical development of political anthropology and sociology; postcolonialism; how power is reproduced and contested; intersections of race, class, gender, and ethnicity; globalization and development; power relations between nations and communities; and structural violence and social change. Instructional Method: LD Lecture-Discussion Prerequisite: SOC1100 Introduction to Sociology, ANTH-1100 Cultural Anthropology, or comparable intro-level Sociology OR Anthropology course.
