EDUC - 6380 Methods of Teaching in Social Science I (3)


Focuses on issues in teaching and learning in the individual and integrated social sciences. Teaches processes for developing historical thinking skills, reading methods/reading in the content area, engaging all learners including ELL and exceptional students, and connecting to texts. Candidates develop a range of disciplinary specific inquiry-based strategies for planning and teaching social sciences.  Students will reflect on positionality and bias and its influence in classroom teaching.  Includes 35-40 hours of micro-teaching field experiences for undergraduates seeking certification in social sciences secondary education. Instructional Method: Offered face-to-face. Semester Offered: Fall. Prerequisite: EDCP-6101  or undergraduate equivalent. Restrictions: Students must have completed 24 semester hours in social science and all Gateway I requirements. Corequisite: EDUC-6301 .
