ANSO - 4300 Food, Culture, and Society (3)


Explores food consumption and production as complex social and cultural systems. Emphasizes symbols and social relations encoded in food systems. Gender and systems of inequality in various subsistence systems are examined. Studies natural resources and materials sustaining local food patterns and exchanges. Instructional Method: Instructional Method: Lecture-Discussion, Online Lecture Semester(s) Offered: Fall or Spring. Prerequisite: Take two courses (6 credit hours) from either ANSO, ANTH, or SOC at the 3000 or 4000 level.
