ANSO - 3500 Music and Society (3) Analyzes music as a symbolic phenomenon that is a source of cultural (re)production, identity formation, and creation of/challenge to power, hegemony, and social inequality. Utilizes macro- and micro-sociological perspectives to explain the ways musicians, their music, and music-related industries influence individuals and society and vice versa within the historical and cultural contexts of the time periods examined. Instructional Method: LD Lecture-Discussion, OL Online Lecture. Semester Offered: Fall, Spring, or Summer. Prerequisite: One of the following courses or their equivalents or permission of instructor: ANTH-1100 , ANSO-2100, ANSO-3200, SOC-1100, SOC-2100, SOC-2200, SOC-3100. Restrictions: At least 45 credit hours completed.
